An impressive selection of baths

(explanation on symbols)

Ratings   (explanation of our rating system)

Global rating :
A large collection of outside baths, most of them mixed ones, in a pleasant surrounding. Whether you come to Manza in winter or summer, you are sure to enjoy the onsen of this hotel.

Size :
Nine outside baths of different sizes are found there. Since they are all packed together on a rather small surface, each bath is located just a couple of meters from the next one.

View :
The view is nice, but not so special... probably the fact that the hotel is in plain view makes it a little less impressive...

Modesty :
With separate changing rooms and entrance, and lots of women bathing there, the only modesty issue is the fact that the baths can be seen from some part of the hotel.

Area :
Manza is an extremely famous ski resort, located at 1800 meters in the Gunma prefecture, very close to the Nagano prefecture. In winter, hotels are packed with Japanese coming to enjoy the attractive combination of onsen and ski. The rest of the year, it offers interesting possibilities for mountain - and volcano - lovers.

Comment

We visited this onsen in August 2004 - enjoying onsen in the middle of japanese summer is not easy, so it is usually better to reach for high-altitude place - with a friend from Europe. It was his first time to soak in a mixed bath, but he enjoyed the adventure, as it is easy to feel comfortable in Manza's onsen.
